Diwali – the Festival of Lights – coincided with the last day of our holiday. We were expecting fireworks but in Goa, celebrations were rather muted, perhaps because of the sizeable Christian community remaining from the Portuguese colonial influence.
Instead, dinner at The Royal Afghan complete with cocktails and a hotel singer, made for a fitting end to the trip, and the sun set on another special family holiday

We flew from Goa to Delhi, and onwards to the UK, with an eight hour wait at Delhi Airport. Having got ourselves locked in the airport for 2 hours (a story that the children can tell), we finally dropped our luggage at the airport hotel room only to head straight out to meet Bea, Matt and Eloise for supper: an unexpected and really enjoyable evening.
I realise with great sadness, that the last time I saw Bea was at her mother’s funeral, and the last time Chris saw Bea was at their father’s funeral. The last few years have indeed been tough, and lockdowns and travel restrictions have only served to create greater barriers.
