I’ve always wanted to see hatchlings: the moment where they emerge from their hidden nests in the sand to make that first dash to the sea. I wasn’t disappointed. It was a joyful experience.

We’d joined friends on a pleasant but uneventful holiday in Barbados. Unlike our last trip to the island, we avoided adventure and glamour. In truth, I missed the reef snorkelling, swimming with turtles, cocktails on a beautiful yacht, dining in trendy beachside restaurants, and the slightly mad reggae bus rides to Holetown.
Fortunately, we did enjoy the ubiquitous rum punches and pina coladas and swimming in the crystal clear sea. We were staying in the quieter side of the island. No shops and fewer restaurants but also benefiting from quiet beaches.

We did a little exploring. Hunte’s Garden being a particular highlight.

Would I return? Yes, but to enjoy the activities that make a Bajen holiday unique and fun. There’s so much more to the island than lying by a pool and lovely beach.
