Apple Find My gives me two pieces of information: that Anthony’s phone was last located 5,944 miles away, and that his precise location is unknown. He feels very far away from me.
And so began our annual trip to the Tuscan hills with our lovely friends the HB’s – a tradition since 2017 (bar the lockdown period) – which always marks the beginning of summer.

Chris, Sophia and I decided to spend a night in Pisa before travelling to San Gimignano. Chris had selected a hotel opposite the entrance to the Leaning Tower and after the obligatory photo “holding” the Tower, we enjoyed a delicious plate of homemade pasta to start the Italian journey.

The beauty of Il Rosalaccio continues, unchanged and welcome, and best enjoyed with a glass or two of local Chianti or Prosecco overlooking the Tuscan hills.
The girls had a wonderful time, sunbathing, shopping, and getting made up for dinner – a far cry from our early holidays of splashing around on inflatables in the pool and eating gelato!

With both Rosie and Anthony finishing school next summer, the future of our Italian family holidays is uncertain, especially as Rosie seems intent on making a bid for freedom. I like to think, however, that the tradition will continue for a few more years to come.
