Hoi An On The Wild Side

During our Hoi An stop, we probably encountered more of today’s Vietnam. In contrast to Hue, Hoi An is not a city dominated by monuments and temples, although tourism is big business – both rural and commercial.

On the hottest day in Hoi An we took a 20km guided cycle tour into the countryside, which I think was probably the highlight of our stay here. Cycling along the river bank, through small villages and fields was such a welcome break from the packed streets.

No guided tour would be complete with a couple of tourist traps, so our guide insisted that we stopped at a traditional pottery village and took a trip in traditional bamboo boats, in truth, both were a welcome break from the heat.

And today, for the first time this holiday, we are having a bit of downtime on the beach. Sometimes you just can’t beat a whole day at a beach club, cold beer and pizza.
