On what has become a firm family favourite destination, we returned again to Hotel Naco in the mountain idyll of Zermatt. This time, for three days only because of Anthony’s A Levels.
With the rest of the family skiing, I spent the morning exploring the mountain trails, meandering through forests and pausing to breathe the crisp, clean air by hidden waterfalls.

Zermatt is a really beautiful town. The main thoroughfare lined with glittering jewellery and watch shop windows, leading to a church in the central square next to the opulent Hotel Zermatterhoff – where guests arrive in horse drawn carriages.

In the mountains, the little settlements paint a far simpler picture. Stilted wooden building, now mostly unused or used for livestock, are a reminder of the way of life before ski lifts and tourists. A small church dated 1670 still remains, accessible and maintained, in a long-since deserted hamlet. It was a peaceful and perfect place to light a candle for my 👼

We finished our final day with a picturesque train journey to the highest station – the Gornegrat – on the Gornegrat Express to enjoy the spectacular views which always amaze.

Our plan is to return in January with Chris’ brother and family and I look forward to writing that post already!
